The Beginning of the Travels of Kat and Marty

Hello, welcome to our 2006/2007 journal. The record of our 'adventure of a lifetime'.

Today is a somewhat overcast day in Mandurah (1 hour south of Perth, Australia), forecast to rain yet not quite delivering. Just as well really as we have mountains of washing out on the clothesline and piles of clothing and travel equipment everywhere, burying Judy and John's floors and furniture.

It is now down to 3 and a half days before we leave on our travels around the world. Marty is feverishly working on our long running spreadsheet, trying to reconcile the dates for different tours and side journeys we want to make along the way. I am here, suddenly not so computer illiterate as I was yesterday, playing with our new forum for giving and hopefully gleaning news from you, our family and friends and of course any others interested in our progress.

Months of planning, research, gathering of paperwork (and injections), bookings, discussions and budgets are about to culminate with our departure from Perth at midnight on Friday. A moment long anticipated. The journey begins with us returning to my home in ChristChurch New Zealand. A chance to see my family and friends and reintroduce Marty to the joys and caprices of Kiwi life. With the recent snowfalls we are anticipating some fun on the skifields and playing around with snow toys, getting a feel for the equipment we will need to use in a few months on our ascent of Aconcagua on the border of Chile and Argentina.

Bags are calling me to be packed (or is that Marty's voice...), people to say our farewells to beckon. Actually to be honest it is the delicous lunch Judy is preparing that is tempting me away. To all our family and friends in WA au revoir, to the rest of the world, well, here we come ;)

3 - Pete, Hi Pete
We are still sussing out how to put our too high resolution photos in on this site - or link it to another place that can handle our photo sizes. Hopefully will be sorted soon.

6 - Well you two - what exciting times you have had already.
Would have loved to have spent a few days with you in the NZ South Island. Snow and cold included as expected. Marty - I didn't count all your fingers and toes before you left - and also didn't your lists and spreadsheets include taking a lighter!! Anyway have fun and look after yourselves. Katherine just loved your trip journal so far-so good and interesting and looking forward to next issue and what Broadway show you have seen. Love Judy and John (Comment this)

7 - Hi K & M
Mum has sent an email to your hotmail Kat.
This is a great start and we are looking forward to following your trip and escapades.
Hugh thought may be worth getting a prepaid cell to txt if necessary but I guess you will get Blogg access fairly often.
Kate - you have a gift of writing a good read - You'll be able to write a book out of the Blogg log when you get home.
Nice days here with things drying out a bit now. Marty - Hope your frosty toe is getting better.
